How to start building good credit
Every year it gets more important to have good credit behind you. Good credit is the one thing that will have your back all of the time, unfortunately most of us do not have this helpful little buddy. So what can you do if you know your credit needs a little spiffing up?
Building good credit is not something that takes a lot of work, in fact it is quite simple really. Sometimes it is as easy as getting in touch with the credit bureau in order to have an error corrected and sometimes it means doing a little more shopping. Yep, I said it: more shopping.
Don't get carried away though, you will have to start doing smart shopping instead of crazy shopping. If you do not have a credit card and you know you don't have good credit then you will not be able to apply for a Visa or a MasterCard. You will instead have to get a department store card. These cards are easier to get but they have much higher interest rates. You will only have to use it sparingly, so hold yourself back.
These credit cards can go a long way towards helping you with building your good credit back up so don't blow it. First buy a small item and pay for it within a couple of weeks. Then buy something else and do this again. There is no need to buy something really expensive because creditors do not care how much you have spent, only that you have been paying for everything according to schedule. Make sure that you have your balance paid off at least every other month in full. Every time that you use this credit card responsibly it is being reported as such on your credit report and building up your good credit.
You will also have to keep any other types of payments that you have in your name up to date as well. So if you do have another credit card, be sure to make all of your payments on time each month. Even your house bills can go on your credit report so keep everything up to date. This get you started right on building your good credit.
