Read the credit card contracts before you sign them!
I am sorry to say, but you cannot trust the people trying to get you to sign. They will gloss over all the unpleasant aspect and sell the card like it was made by Martha Stewart herself. You need to read the credit card contract for yourself to see what the real deal is. Look at it this way, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is right?

It is in the find print of the contract that you will find out when and how the credit card company is allowed to change their rates on you. This happens all too frequently and you do not want to get taken by surprise once it is too late. Before you sign the contract you not only need to find that out, you also need to find out what the interest rate is supposed to be. And I am not talking about the low "introductory" rate either. I mean the real deal.
Did you know that some companies will offer this low introductory rate only to give you a higher one in the coming months to make up for it? Look out for this kind of thing. Shopping around for a credit card is important because it can help you to avoid these kinds of things.

Reading the whole contract and the fine print is not the end of it though. Now you have to make sure that you understand everything that you read. If you are unsure about anything do not sign the contract until you have gotten a straight answer from the lender. You should also get any important answers right there in writing just in case they want to try to change their minds down the road.
Credit card companies are tricky beasts and you need to be sharp to keep from getting taken advantage of. Read the find print and do not ever sign the contract until you know exactly what it is that you are signing.
