How to fix errors on your credit report
You are not alone in your credit struggles, millions of people have bad credit and most of them do not know what to do about it. That is why I am here, to take a little mystery out of the situation.

The very first thing that you need to do when it comes to building good credit is to get a copy of your current credit report. If you got one last year, you still need to get a new one now. Once you have this report you need to go over it very carefully. There are all kinds of small mistakes that could have been reported on it and each of these will affect your credit rating. Look for payments that were erroneously reported late, or payment that are claimed as not sent. If you see any errors on this report you need to let your creditors know immediately.
First call your creditors and let them know what you have found then write them a letter. This letter needs to be detailed. Tell them everything that you know, the mistake and why it is wrong. If you have any documentation at all to back up your claims send it in. Not the original copies though, photo copy them and staple them to your letter. This could be canceled checks, a money order a receipt, whatever, send it all in. This can save you tons of time when it comes to sorting out the problem.
Now the creditors have a month to get everything handled on their end. Keep checking to see that things are being processed and done the right way. If time passes and nothing has been done then phone them again. You will also need to request that your new and corrected credit report be sent to all of the lenders and creditors who have looked at it recently. This goes for employers too. The credit bureau will do this for you free of charge.
Having good credit matters and mistakes on a credit report are all too common problems. These errors only lead to bad credit and there is no reason why you should have to suffer with bad credit when you have done nothing to deserve it.
