What to do when you lose your credit cards

There is no feeling like the one that you experience when your credit cards are gone. Your stomach drops t the floor and you feel like you are going to throw up, yeah, been there, done that. Man, that is a hard thing to think about. As scary as this is it can be a lot less stressful if you know exactly what to do in the event of thins kind of emergency. Do you know hat number to call or it t only on your credit card, where it will do you no good in a situation like this?

When you get your credit cards in the mail for the first time what you need to do is write everything down. Write down the number that you are supposed to call when the cards get lot or stolen. This number should actually stay on your fridge. It is a good idea to memorize your card numbers right away so that you can call the credit card company and just list off the credit card numbers right away. If it is just impossible for you to learn your numbers off by heart then write them down someplace safe. Put them in a file someplace or under a rug where no one will find them. You need to have them on hand so that the credit companies know which cards need to be cancelled.

You cannot afford to wait any length of time before you contact the credit card company. If you wait you could be liable for some damages if the card gets maxed out. If you call as soon as you see the cards are missing then you are safe. Once you have talked to a representative of the company, you will then want to follow this call up with a letter explaining the situation. In the letter put down your account number, your name and your address as well as the time and place where you think the cards were stolen or lost.

Once you have reported the loss of the credit cards the company should have put a stop on your accounts. But just to be on the safe side start checking your monthly statements if you do not do this already. Just in case there was some kind of error you do not want your credit to continue to be damaged by some thief. If you see any activity that should not be there then contact the credit card issuer again and tell them what is going on.

Losing your credit cards is scary but as long as you follow the steps outlined above you can minimize the damage that is done to you and your credit.
