How much do you pay to use your credit card?
![]() |
Credit cards are far from free, in fact they can carry a pretty heavy price tag. Many of the fees that you pay for the privilege of using a credit card are hidden fees. That means that you cannot see them but they are still there. Credit card companies put a lot of work into making sure that you do not know what you are paying them for the card. You can keep an eye out for these charges if you simply watch your credit card statement very carefully each month. If you see anything suspicious or the math does not compute then you need to call your credit card company right away.
The fees that you are charged add up to a lot of money and you need to know what these fees are if you want to be able to minimize the damage that they can do to you.
Here are some of the common credit card fees and charges that you will have to contend with:
Grace period
This is the amount of time that you have before you get charged interest on your purchases. Not all credit cards have the same length of grace period so be sure to find out just what yours is. If your credit card has a really short grace period then get a new card.
Interest rates
These are unavoidable, all credit cards have interest rates. This is what will be charged- once your grace period has ended- on your purchases. Cash advances have no grace periods you are always charged interest immediately. The only thing that you can do about interest rates is choose the card with the lowest one. Spend some time shopping for a credit card before you apply for one.
Late fees
Late fees are what you will be charged when you do not ay your credit card bill on time each month. These fees can really add up and with the dwindling grace periods that are being handed out they are getting all too common. Pay attention to when your credit card payments are due and pay them on time all of the time! By sending in your payments early every month you can cut down the chances of getting hit with these late fees n your credit card.
